On December 22nd we got on a boat from Jesselton Point and headed to Gaya Island for some Jungle Trekking. We were the only ones on this tour so we were able to go at our own pace, stop to take lots of pictures and ask questions of our guides. Two dogs from the village accompanied us which was fun because we love dogs but probably scared off any jungle critters we might possibly have been able to see otherwise. We did see thousands of ants marching across our path and a monkey made an appearance though he was none too happy about our canine friends.
After our Jungle Trek on Gaya Island we were picked up and taken across the channel to Sapi Island where we had a Malay BBQ lunch- whole grilled fish, rice, prawns, crab etc. Yum! Then it was time for some snorkeling!
Getting ready to take the plunge!
What are you lookin' at?
Nemo and Family
Coral destroying sea urchins. Pretty. But someone should really eat them so they leave the reefs alone.
A Cuttlefish! We were so excited to see this guy! Even the guide said he had never seen one there.
The Sea was amazing! The pictures really don't do the colors justice but a great reminder of the fun we had. The water was so buoyant that it was effortless to snorkel for hours but good grief don't get any of it in your mouth! I grew up near the ocean but I've never tasted salt water this salty! Blech!
This day was definitely the highlight of the vacation! Sort of regretting not going a second time but I guess that's what future vacations are for!
